I recently read an article which commented why actors such as David Caruso, Shelly Long, Suzanne Somers and McLean Stevenson left their respective hit shows. Let's take them one at a time.
1. David Caruso. An amazing talent who did great work on Steven Bochco's NYPD Blue. Sadly, he was young and had a chip on his shoulder. Couldn't work with anybody. Widely disliked by cast and crew. Left to make two movies which bombed. Luckily, he bounced back with the hit series: CSI: Miami.
2. Shelly Long. The female version of Caruso. Left the smash hit series: Cheers to go and do movies. Most of them bombed. Has been seen on TV from time to time. Never duplicated the success of Cheers.
3. Suzanne Somers. This is an interesting story. It seems her husband was her agent as well. He demanded an outrageous amount of money for her to continue on the hit series: Three's Company. The producers and the network, ABC said "see ya." They reduced her role to a one minute phone call at the end of an episode. However, she bounced back by playing Las Vegas doing a singing and variety act. She was very successful at it and went on to star in other series such as "She's The Sheriff." It's entirely possible Suzann
e will be remembered for her Thighmaster than her acting ability.
4. McLean Stevenson. He was unhappy doing the hit series: M*A*S*H*. Wanted more to do and essentially be the star of that show instead of Alan Alda. Unknown to many; CBS which ran M*A*S*H* offered McLean his own TV series. He jumped to NBC which gave him the bomb "Hello Larry." Appearances on talk shows and game shows filled in the rest. It's too bad he's no longer with us. But, we did get 3 seasons from him on M*A*S*H*
